Meet Kohen.
Born and raised in Taranaki, New Zealand, Kohen shares his family’s love and passion for surfing. At just 14 years old, this avid surfer spends the majority of his time out in the waves practicing his skills and having fun.
At what age did you start surfing?
I started surfing probably around the age of 4, but I only started getting into it from about the age of 12.
Do you have any other hobbies or interests?
Yes, I play the guitar and write songs that I have released worldwide which is super cool.
Where is your favourite surf break?
I have many different surf breaks I like to surf, but mostly I surf at Oakura Beach which is normally pretty consistent and fun throughout the whole year. My favourite spot down the coast at the moment would probably be Stent because it’s a right-hand point break which is super good because I am a natural surfer.
Is there a person that you look up to as a role model?
Yes, I am very fortunate to have a very talented surfer in the family (Paige Hareb) who I definitely look up to, knowing that it can be done by someone in our family. It’s super cool to have been surfing with her a few times while she has been home before she heads off to the Challenger Series in May.
What's the best piece of advice you've been given?
All good things take time, so don’t worry if you have a bad day, just know that it will come eventually if you stick at it.
What do you see yourself accomplishing in 5 to 10 years?
My main goals in surfing are mostly just to have fun and enjoy being in the water and then hopefully my competition results will come from there. Obviously, some of my goals would be to be competitive in the NZ Grom Series, but that will only happen if I enjoy what I’m doing.
